Hanging Grim Reaper Tree Spirit
Make a grand, chilling statement in your yard by hanging a towering, life-sized Grim Reaper from a tall tree branch. This DIY project uses lightweight, wind-catching materials like black landscaping fabric, dark cheesecloth, and a plastic skull to create a menacing, floating specter. As the autumn wind blows, the tattered black robes billow and sway, creating a dynamic, imposing figure that dominates your outdoor holiday landscape and captivates all who dare to approach.
To construct the Grim Reaper, start with a lightweight frame made from a plastic coat hanger and a length of wire to form the shoulders and outstretched arms. Secure a plastic skull to the center of the hanger using wire or hot glue. Drape long, shredded strips of black weed barrier fabric, black cheesecloth, or creepy cloth over the frame, letting the fabric hang down in long, tattered layers to create a flowing, tattered robe. Add a dark hood over the skull to cast its face in shadow. Attach a loop of strong monofilament fishing line to the top of the hanger and suspend the reaper high up in a tree, allowing it to float majestically and spookily over your lawn.
