Hanging Cage Creepy Creatures
Create a dramatic, gothic dungeon atmosphere on your porch or hanging from low tree branches with hanging cage creatures. By utilizing cheap plastic laundry baskets or hanging planter baskets painted to look like rusted iron, you can trap spooky skeletons, ghoulish dolls, or glowing-eyed monsters. This suspended DIY craft adds vertical interest to your outdoor decorations, drawing the eyes upward and maximizing your decorating space.
To assemble a cage, take two identical round plastic laundry baskets with open slat designs. Spray paint them with textured flat black or metallic dark bronze spray paint to mimic heavy iron. Once dry, lightly dry-brush some orange and brown acrylic paint onto the surfaces to simulate rust. Place a lightweight plastic skeleton, a creepy stuffed creature, or a glowing skull inside one of the baskets, securing it with zip ties so it stays upright. Flip the second basket upside down and place it on top of the first basket, securing the rims together with black zip ties. Attach a thick plastic chain to the top and hang your spooky cage from a sturdy porch hook or tree limb.
