Concrete Pumpkin Planters

By using inexpensive plastic jack-o’-lantern trick-or-treat buckets as molds, you can cast heavy, durable, and sophisticated stone-look planters. To construct these planters, mix a batch of standard concrete or mortar mix according to the package instructions. Lightly coat the inside of a plastic pumpkin bucket with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Pour the wet concrete into the bucket, filling it about three-quarters of the way. Take a smaller plastic cup or container, coat its exterior with cooking spray, and press it down into the center of the wet concrete to create the planting cavity, weighing it down with rocks so it stays in place. Let the concrete cure for 24 to 48 hours. Once fully set, carefully cut away the outer plastic bucket to reveal your beautifully detailed, textured concrete pumpkin. Fill with soil and your favorite fall plants.
