Rustic Scrap Wood Scarecrow
Capture the cozy, transitionary period between early autumn and Halloween with a rustic scrap wood scarecrow. Cut a 2×4 block to about ten inches in length. Paint the bottom half in a deep denim blue to represent his overalls, and the top half in a warm, creamy ivory or light beige for his fabric face. Use a orange paint to add a triangular patch on his overalls, complete with painted-on black stitches.
For his face, paint simple closed, sleeping eyes, a stitched-on orange triangle nose, and a wide, friendly stitched smile. The real magic of this craft lies in the details: glue strands of real raffia or dried straw to the top and sides of his head to look like messy straw hair.
