Rustic Block Jack-o-Lanterns
If you love the warm, flickering glow of autumn jack-o-lanterns but hate the messy cleanup of carving real pumpkins, these reusable wood block pumpkins are the perfect solution. Cut your 2×4 boards into three distinct lengths—short, medium, and tall—to create visual interest when grouped together. Paint each block in a warm, rich shade of terracotta or burnt orange. While the paint is still slightly damp, you can blend in a touch of yellow or brown acrylic paint along the edges to create a realistic, three-dimensional depth.
For the pumpkin stems, gather thick, fallen tree branches from your backyard and cut them into two-inch pieces. Attach these wooden stems to the top of each block using strong wood glue or a hot glue gun. To complete the look, wrap a piece of green floral wire around a pencil to create whimsical, curly pumpkin vines, and hot glue them next to the stem along with a faux maple leaf. Finally, use black paint to brush on classic triangular eyes and toothy grins, or keep them plain on one side so you can display them as elegant harvest decor all through Thanksgiving.
