Vintage-Style Halloween Apothecary Signs
Transform ordinary 2×4 blocks into authentic-looking vintage apothecary signs that look like they were salvaged from an old witch’s cabin. Cut your blocks into rectangular plaques of various sizes. Stain the wood with a dark walnut stain to create a rich, aged base. Once dry, paint over the stain with a coat of orange, black, or antique white chalk paint.
Using a dry brush technique, lightly sand the edges and flat surfaces to let the dark wood stain show through, creating a heavily weathered, antique look. Use stencils or a steady hand to paint spooky, old-fashioned labels onto the front, such as “Poison Apple Extract,” “Bat Wings 25 cents,” or “Hocus Pocus Apothecary.” Seal the signs with a coat of dark wax to deepen the vintage patina, making them look like genuine, centuries-old relics.
