8. Abstract Pastel Color Wash
Sometimes the most beautiful art is completely abstract. An abstract color wash is an excellent way to get to know how your paints behave, how they mix, and how much water your paper can hold. Choose a harmonious palette of three to four pastel shades, such as blush pink, soft lavender, mint green, and peach. Wet your paper thoroughly and drop the colors on randomly, letting them run, pool, and blend into one another. You can tilt the paper to guide the flow of the pigments. This exercise is incredibly therapeutic and results in a soft, dreamy background that can be used for calligraphy, journaling, or framed as modern minimalist art.
