There is something deeply meditative about painting a forest shrouded in fog. For beginners, this is the ultimate confidence booster because it relies heavily on the wet-on-wet technique, where the water does most of the work for you. You start by wetting your paper with a clean brush and laying down a very pale, diluted wash of cool grey or soft blue-green. While the paper is still damp, you tap in slightly darker, soft-edged shapes that mimic distant trees fading into the mist. As the paper dries, you paint sharper, darker silhouettes in the foreground to create an instant illusion of depth. It is a forgiving project where mistakes easily blend into beautiful atmospheric anomalies.
