16. Elegant Feather Silhouettes

Feathers are a beautiful way to practice fine line work and color transitions. Start with a thin, curved line for the central quill. From there, use a damp brush to sweep soft, wispy strokes outward and upward to create the vanes of the feather. You can use a single color like turquoise, or let indigo blend into a soft rose gold. To make the feather look realistic, leave tiny, natural-looking splits in the barbs by skipping small sections of the paper. This project is highly customizable and has a lovely bohemian feel.
