Colorful Watercolor Coffee Filter Ghosts

5

For a softer, more ethereal take on Halloween decor, watercolor coffee filter ghosts are a stunning visual treat. This craft beautifully demonstrates the science of chromatography and color blending, making it both educational and artistic. Children start with flat, round paper coffee filters and use washable markers to draw colorful patterns, dots, and swirls all over them. Classic Halloween palettes like purples, oranges, and greens work wonderfully, but any color combination will yield beautiful results.

Once the coloring is complete, kids use a spray bottle filled with water to gently mist the coffee filters. Watch their eyes light up with wonder as the water causes the marker ink to bleed, blend, and diffuse across the paper, creating gorgeous, marbled watercolor patterns. After the filters have dried completely, drape them over a small cotton ball or crumpled tissue to form a rounded head, securing it with a piece of string or a small rubber band. The remaining patterned paper flows downward like a beautiful, flowing ghostly gown. Hang a cluster of these colorful spirits in a sunny window to create a vibrant, stained-glass effect that brightens up the autumn light.
