Mason Jar Jack-o’-Lanterns

If you love the look of carved pumpkins but want a mess-free, reusable alternative that kids of all ages can safely make, mason jar jack-o’-lanterns are the perfect solution. This project captures the classic look of a glowing pumpkin using simple crafting materials that won’t rot or attract pests, allowing you to enjoy your decorations year after year.

To create these glowing jars, have your child apply a layer of orange tissue paper squares to the outside of a clean glass jar using non-toxic decoupage glue or diluted school glue. The overlapping layers of tissue paper create a beautiful, mottled texture that perfectly mimics the skin of a pumpkin. Once the glue is dry, kids can cut classic jack-o’-lantern face shapes out of black construction paper or felt and glue them onto the orange surface. Place a battery-operated LED candle inside the jar, screw on the metal lid ring, and watch your handmade pumpkin jar glow safely on your porch steps or dining table.
