Paper Plate Spider Webs

13

Introduce your children to the basics of sewing and weaving with this delightful paper plate spider web craft. This project is excellent for older toddlers and elementary schoolers, as it challenges their spatial awareness and fine motor control. Start by taking a white paper plate and cutting out the center circle, leaving a wide outer ring. Use a hole punch to create a series of holes spaced evenly around the inner edge of the ring.

Cut a long piece of white, silver, or black yarn, and tape one end to a blunt plastic yarn needle or wrap the tip in tape to make threading easier. Tie the other end to one of the holes on the plate. Children can then thread the yarn back and forth across the open center of the plate, weaving a unique, intersecting web pattern. Once they are satisfied with their web, tie off the yarn. To complete the scene, kids can glue a tiny plastic spider or a handmade pom-pom spider onto the yarn threads, creating a beautiful, geometric piece of window decor that catches the autumn light.
