Egg Carton Halloween Bats

4

Before throwing away your cardboard egg cartons, save them for this incredibly clever upcycling project that turns everyday trash into spooky hanging bats. This craft is fantastic for teaching kids about sustainability while keeping their creative hands busy. To create the bat shape, an adult can easily cut the egg carton into sections of three cups. The middle cup serves as the bat’s body, while the two outer cups are trimmed slightly to resemble scalloped, scalloped wings flapping in the night sky.

Once the cardboard is prepped, kids can take over with bottles of black, deep purple, or midnight blue paint. Painting the textured cardboard is a wonderful sensory experience. After the paint dries, children can add tiny details like white painted fangs, glowing red eyes, or even a dusting of eco-friendly glitter to the wings for a bit of starry-night magic. To display these nocturnal creatures, thread a piece of clear monofilament fishing line or black yarn through the top of the center cup. Hang them from chandeliers, indoor branches, or curtain rods where they can gently spin and fly with every passing breeze.
