Mason Jar Mummy Lanterns

Light up the chilly autumn nights with these safe, glowing Mason Jar Mummy Lanterns. This craft is incredibly forgiving for toddlers because there is no right or wrong way to wrap a mummy. The overlapping layers of gauze or tissue paper only add to the realistic, bandaged texture of the character. This project is excellent for developing bilateral coordination as toddlers hold the jar with one hand and wrap or stick the materials with the other. When illuminated with flameless LED tea lights, these jars cast a warm, cozy, and comforting glow in a dark room.
To begin, clean a glass mason jar and remove any labels. Brush a generous layer of liquid school glue or Mod Podge all over the outside of the jar. Give your toddler rolls of white crepe paper streamers, medical gauze, or strips of white tissue paper. Let them wrap the strips around and around the jar, layering them to cover the glass. If the paper sticks out, simply brush a little more glue over the top to smooth it down. Glue two large googly eyes near the top of the jar, peeking out from between the bandages. Drop a battery-operated LED tea light inside to bring your friendly little mummy to life.
