Pumpkin Printing with Apple Halves
Combine the bounty of the autumn harvest with creative art by using apple halves as stamps to print pumpkins. The natural shape of an apple cut in half horizontally or vertically closely resembles a plump little pumpkin, complete with a natural indentation at the top and bottom. Stamping with apples is easy for small hands to grip, making it a highly accessible and satisfying printmaking activity for toddlers.
Cut a medium-sized apple in half. You can insert a plastic fork into the rounded back of the apple half to act as an easy-grip handle for your toddler. Pour orange washable paint onto a flat plate. Have your toddler dip the flat, cut side of the apple into the paint, ensuring it is evenly coated, and then stamp it firmly onto a sheet of white or blue paper. Lift the apple straight up to reveal a perfect pumpkin shape. Once the orange prints are dry, your toddler can use green paint or a marker to add stems and vines to their freshly stamped pumpkin patch.
