Gothic Poison Apothecary Bottles

3

Give your bookshelves, mantelpiece, or coffee table a dark, academic upgrade by crafting your own collection of vintage poison apothecary bottles. Gather empty glass containers of various shapes and sizes, such as wine bottles, old medicine jars, maple syrup flasks, or perfume bottles. Spray paint them in matte black, deep amber, or dusty charcoal. To make them look authentically ancient, apply a light coat of Mod Podge mixed with a drop of black acrylic paint to create a grimy, soot-covered texture. Print out free vintage apothecary labels featuring fictional ingredients like “Eye of Newt,” “Deadly Nightshade,” or “Liquid Zombie.” Singe the edges of the paper labels with a lighter for a charred look before gluing them onto the bottles. Finish the look by inserting dried twigs, dead roses, or black faux feathers into the spouts, creating a sophisticated yet sinister display.
