The Elegant French Twist

3

Many assume that the classic French twist is impossible to achieve with short hair, but with the right technique, it is incredibly achievable and stunningly elegant. This style is perfect for formal events, weddings, or professional settings where you want to project sophisticated grace. The secret lies in creating a solid foundation. Start by backcombing the crown and the back of your head slightly to create volume and grip. Gather your hair at the nape of your neck, off-center to the left, and secure it vertically with a row of bobby pins overlapping in an “X” shape. This acts as your anchor.

Next, gather the remaining hair and roll it tightly to the right, tucking the ends inside the roll as you press it against the anchor pins. Insert U-pins or bobby pins horizontally into the twist, catching both the twisted hair and the anchored hair underneath to lock everything in place. For chin-length hair, some shorter layers around the face and neck may slip out. Rather than fighting them, let them fall naturally to soften the look, or use a light-hold hairspray to gently sweep them back. The result is a timeless, regal updos that beautifully highlights your neckline and shoulders.
