18. Distressed Mirror with Crawling Spiders
Turn an ordinary thrift store mirror into a haunted heirloom. Start by distressing the mirror glass using a diluted mixture of muriatic acid sprayed on the back of the mirror (with proper safety precautions) to strip away small patches of the reflective silvering, creating an antique, spotted look. Paint the ornate frame of the mirror in a distressed, dusty grey or matte black. To finish the eerie transformation, glue realistic plastic spiders to the frame and the glass, positioned as if they are emerging from the distressed, foggy patches of the mirror, creating a chilling illusion for anyone who dares to look at their reflection.
