Paper Plate Spiderwebs
This craft is an exceptional way to help young children practice their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through a simplified sewing technique. Start by cutting out the center circle of a paper plate, leaving a sturdy outer ring. Use a hole puncher to create evenly spaced holes all the way around the inner edge of the remaining paper plate ring.
Provide your child with a long piece of white or silver yarn, wrapping tape around the end of the string to act as a makeshift needle. Kids can weave the yarn back and forth through the holes, creating an intricate, crisscrossed spiderweb pattern in the center of the plate. To finish the project, they can attach a small plastic spider or craft their own out of a black pom-pom, securing it right in the center of their hand-woven web.
