11. The Hillside Terraced Cottage

Some of the best cottages aren’t on flat ground at all. This one is built into a hillside, with terraced gardens stepping down in front of it, each one full of crops or flowers, and the poplar cottage sitting right at the top like it’s watching over everything.
The trick is letting the hill shape the build. Follow the slope with your paths, use stairs instead of ladders, and let the pale wood stand out against the green. It takes a little longer, but the result looks like it grew there naturally.
