Distressed Gothic Matte Black Jars
For those who lean toward a sophisticated, Victorian gothic aesthetic, these distressed matte black jars offer a stunningly dramatic look. This project is all about rich textures and the beauty of antiquity. Begin by painting the entire exterior of the mason jar with a premium, ultra-matte black chalk paint. Chalk paint is ideal because of its thick, porous texture and its ability to be easily sanded down to reveal underlying details without peeling off in large chunks.
Once the base coat is fully dry, use a fine-grit sandpaper to gently rub away the paint on the raised portions of the jar, such as the embossed glass lettering, the ridges around the rim, and the bottom edges.
