12. The Overgrown Canal Lock Bridge

12

Combining industrial utility with nature’s reclamation, the Overgrown Canal Lock Bridge features double stone arches built over a man-made waterway or river canal. Made from granite, brick, and mossy cobblestone, the structure shows the wear and tear of aquatic trade routes long forgotten. Wooden sluice gates, now rotten and covered in vines, stay permanently jammed open, allowing wild river plants to choke the canal bed. Flowering leaf blocks spill out of broken stone planters built into the bridge parapets, while hanging lanterns swing gently from rusted iron chain link fences, creating a cozy, nostalgic atmosphere.
