What This Idea Means
Transforming ocean-tumbled sea glass into wearable jewelry without drilling holes, this project uses intricate micro-macramé knotting techniques to net the glass securely within fine waxed polyester cord.
How to Make It
- Cut Waxed Cord: Cut four 30-inch strands of 0.8mm Linhasita waxed polyester cord. Fold them in half to form an 8-strand working group.
- Knot Bottom Basket: Tie a central square knot, then separate cords into pairs. Tie alternating square knots 1/4-inch lower to create a flexible net mesh.
- Insert Sea Glass: Place a frosted sea glass piece inside the knot mesh, pulling cords tight around the sides to wrap the stone snugly.
- Knot Top Neck Loop: Gather all 8 cords above the glass and wrap them into a tight spiral whipping knot to form the top mounting loop.
- Braid Neck Cord: Separate remaining cord strands into two groups and braid them into a 20-inch necklace strap, finishing with a sliding knot closure.
Tips & Variations
- Tip: Melt the trimmed ends of waxed cord lightly with a lighter; the wax fuses instantly to keep knots from unraveling.
